#1. Black and brown cannot be worn together.
Actually, black and brown together is super chic. Think a black dress with brown waist belt or black pencil skirt with a brown cashmere sweater. If you want to try it out, but still feel awkward about it, find a piece that includes both colors in the same garment.
#2. Baggy clothing will hide my flaws.
This is really one of the worst beliefs to have...because I promise when you are wearing those baggy clothes, they are actually making you look bigger, not smaller. What to do instead? Find pieces that fit and flatter for your particular shape. If you focus on accentuating the good things instead of hiding the bad ones it will help you to recognize items that work the best on your body.
#3. Short women can't wear maxi dresses.
This is completely untrue! There are a couple of things I think you should keep in mind though. Opt for a lightweight fabric to minimize bulk, and look for something that nips in just under the bust. This is something to remember no matter what type of garment you are wearing, because to the eye it will seem as if this is where your leg line begins adding height. You can also add a comfortable wedge to add even more height, if you do this be sure that the hem of the dress just about hits the floor.
#4. You shouldn't mix your metals, like gold and silver.
Although the colors may not be the same they still have the metallic element in common, which makes them work together. If you are still unsure about it, use the same rule as black and brown: find a piece that already includes both metals together.
